29 March. 2016 – Once again, the young Lebanese tennis players were able to shine in International tournaments, and this time, not just any tournament but the Junior Davis Cup and Junior Fed Cup by BNP PARIBAS Asia/Oceania, Pre Qualifying Event U16 held in Colombo Sri Lanka from March 10th until March 18th, 2016.
Participating countries included Singapore, Vietnam, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Oman, Bahrain, Iraq, Butan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Syria, Turkmenistan, Saudi Arabia, Nepal and Lebanon.
The Lebanese Tennis Federation sent three girls, Yara Fayssal, Gaelle Bou Abdo and Yasmeen Ghaoui and three boys, Roy Tabet, Daniel Nammour and Karl Berberian in the category of Under 16.
Defying the change of landscape, time zone and temperature, all six players along with their coaches Richard El Hajj and Nabil Azar Sassine took on a thrilling adventure fighting each point, each game and each set. Each one of them gave a brilliant performance on court, trying to perform at their best to score a win, withstanding high humidity and high temperature.
Although each player trains in a different country, they all proved to be very supportive of each other as well as bonding. For the assisting parents, this journey was described as the journey of what a real Lebanese family spirit is all about. Having a quiet challenging draw, the girls managed to finish in 5th position out of the 12 teams participating, as for the boys they managed to finish in 9th position out of the 14 participating teams. Reaching these positions, the Lebanese proved once again that nothing is impossible. We wish all the national team players a prosperous future and hope we can see them representing their country in higher Davis Cup categories.
