04 April. 2016 – With 21 consecutive wins in the Lebanese futsal championship regular season, and home & away victories against Bank of Beirut with a score of 5-3 and 4-2, Al Mayadeen were heading into the final as heavy favorites. Moreover, the team, having earned the 1st place in the standings was benefiting from home court advantage!
Nevertheless, Bank of Beirut turned things around away from home, handing Mayadeen a first loss in the series with a score of 8-4! Who expected such a gap in that game? Very few actually.
Also, in that game, Al Mayadeen were even able to press early on and score the first goal to lead 1-0! But then BoB responded with 4 consecutive goals in the 1st half!
The only rational explanation about what went wrong with the regular season champions, is over confidence. Indeed, the orange players knew that they were favorites, saw themselves taking an early lead and therefore lost their focus thinking it was going to be another easy game. They seemed to forget that Bank of Beirut had a coach and players with a large experience in the league and in the final, and the visitors were indeed able to take full advantage of the situation, snatch an away win and steal the home court advantage.
Game 2 will take place on Wednesday, and Mayadeen’s coach has to stress out the importance of playing with the right mindset, as if they were playing for their lives! Talent is present, bench depth is also there and the coaching staff is doing an excellent job in terms of tactics so the orange team has everything it takes to take an away win and level the series.
Expect a great and much closer match on Wednesday!
