03 May 2016 – Two of our Lebanese Junior athletes, Mahmoud DAOU (CSJ) and Saraj Joe KORTBAWI (Champville) were supposed to travel to Algeria to take part in the Arab Juniors Championship.
At a last minute, one day before their departure, they got a call from the Lebanese Athletics Federation telling them that the participation has been cancelled. The athletes were supposed to travel to Tunis which included one stop, and then in Aalgeria travel a long distance in order to arrive to the host city.
The participation would have costed a lot for only two athletes, and they would arrive exhausted after a very long trip so the federation decided to cancel the participation. Is it a wise decision or not, we can’t tell, but the two athletes will have another chance, this time in Tunisia in June where they have a great chance of taking part in the U23 Mediterranean Athletics Championship.
We just hope that next time we won’t face such a problem and see our athletes, even if they are few, participate in International competitions. Mahmoud and Sara Joe will compete in the Lebanese Juniors Championship that will be held in Jamhour on the 19th, 20th and 21st of May 2016!
