05 May 2016 – Two young Lebanese coaches, Ibrahim and Omar SHMAITILLY, travelled to Cyprus to meet the former Cyprus Basketball National team player and current coach, Adonis CHRISTOU! The passionate coaches learned a lot from this strong coach and established a new cooperation between Lebanon and Cyprus!
Ibrahim and Omar stayed four days in Cyprus, where they followed Adonis CHRISTOU during his training sessions and tough them how he thinks and how he applies his strategies. CHRISTOU is a FIBA certified coach who studied for 3 years and started coaching at a young age like our two Lebanese coaches.
According to Ibrahim, the difference between our Lebanese system and the one imposed by CHRISTOU, is that we, in Lebanon, focus a lot on the drills, while the Cyprus coach focuses first on the psychological aspect of the children which we don’t really apply in Lebanon.
Secondly, the focus a lot on the diffusive play instead of focusing on the offense. Moreover, when the young players enters the stadium to train, they disconnect from the social world and put all their energy in practice!
SHMAITILLY brothers established a really good connection with coach Adonis CHRISTOU, and started a new cooperation between the two parts; they will allow the Lebanese team to go to Cyprus for training camps, and coach CHRISTOU will come during summer to give a training session in Lebanon. A training camp in Cyprus is scheduled for this July with Youth star academy.
Ibrahim is coaching Riyadi and IC teams, while Omar is now a supervisor in All Sports Academy and also a coach in IC. They were able to grab 6 titles this season. The brothers did an amazing set towards the development of sports in Lebanon! These relationships are extremely important for a country like Lebanon!
Thank you Ibrahim and Omar for your efforts!
