15 May. 2016 – The 2015-2016 Lebanese futsal championship and cup were one of the best we had in years, as we had different winners in each with many teams investing and competing!
Indeed, heading into the last season, it was expected that Bank of Beirut & Mayadeen were going to fight tightly for the top spot. Nevertheless, BoB could not repeat the performance of the 2014-2015 regular season and fell down to third place with the Lebanese Army grabbing 2nd place! Mayadeen on the other hand cruised to a top finish as they did not lose any game before the knockout stages! That was the first surprise that fueled the competition, as BoB was definitely not going to give up without a fight.
Later on in the advanced stages, another move made the league and match ups even more interesting, when USJ signed 2 foreign players in order to mix its already young & talented squad! They got knocked out against Mayadeen but still earned the admiration and respect of every fan!
Bank of Beirut meanwhile changed its foreign players and was able to overcome the home court advantage deficit against the Lebanese Army in the semis and made it to the finals to face Mayadeen.
The final series was one for the ages, as the regular season champions defied all odds and turned the series around to win it 3-2 after trailing 0-2!
Moreover, it was not the final confrontation between both teams as they faced again in the cup final, where Bank of Beirut defeated Mayadeen to claim the title!
Overall, it was one of the best if not the best futsal season we ever witnessed in Lebanon and we would give it a 9/10 rating. Now, the league champions are looking forward to a successful participation in the Asian championship while BoB will be getting ready to regain its champion status next year!
