Clik here to view.21 Jun. 2016– For three years rumors would come and go of George ‘Rush’ St-Pierre wanting to return to the octagon, but now it is rumor no more. On Monday, GSP was a guest on The MMA Hour and announced his desire to return to the octagon, but is still waiting for his management team to finish up negotiations with the UFC. His last fight in the octagon came in 2013 against then Johny Hendricks at UFC 167 where he won via split-decision.

Clik here to view.GSP is still considered one of the best welterweights to ever enter the octagon. With a record of 25-2, and a six year reign as the UFC welterweight champion to prove so, it will be awesome to see him back. So far, if negotiations are successful, it seems welterweight is not the only weight class he could return to. Newly crowned middleweight champ Michael ‘The Count’ Bisping, and iconic Irishman and featherweight champion Conor McGregor are possible foes for the former champ. Both interesting possibilities, but which would make a better fight?

Clik here to view. The McGregor fight would definitely bring in more numbers, and money, but I don’t see it favoring McGregor in any other way. GSP would be too big, and strong for him to handle. St-Pierre would take him to the ground, and pound away while looking for submissions all night long. The Bisping fight on the other hand seems like a better idea, but isn’t a perfect one. GSP hasn’t fought in three years, and there is always ring rust whenever fighters return after long absences. A fight against a top contender in the middleweight class or welterweight class to get rid of some of that rust makes more sense. Not only will it give the fans a top-tier fight, but if St-Pierre wins, more knowledge of what to expect from the former champ in his next fight. Watching him train is not the same as watching him fight.
That being said, all we can do now is wait for negotiations to go through, and the UFC to make its decision. Hopefully they make the right one, and set up a fight that not only satisfies fans, but also opens the doors for GSP to make another dominating run in the organization.
