Lebanese Athletics Open Clubs Championship: 4 Records broken on day 2

29 Jul. 2016The Lebanese Open Clubs Championship continues for the second consecutive day at Camille Chamoun Sports City in Beirut and the Javelin and Hammer throw at Jamhour. The second day was also a success with four new records: 2 National and 2 Midget records added to the list!

“The Flash”, the new nickname of Nour HADID from the Lebanese Army, was attributed to him for a year already, not only because he loves the series but because he really is FAST! After setting a new personal best on 100m with 10.69 (with a head wind). Yesterday he finally broke the long standing 200m record of 21.58 achieved by Mohamad CHARARA (Champville) back in 1999!

HADID ran a beautiful race with his teammate Hassan MANSOUR who really helped Nour break this record and clock 21.50 seconds on this distance! It’s his first national record!

On the other hand, Nadia DAGHER (Champions) who lives and trains in Germany, did an amazing 2:16 on the 800m on the first day and came yesterday with the same energy to run the 1500m and set a new record of 4:37.39! The previous record was 4:38.74 for Saria TRABOULSI (Inter-Lebanon).

During this championship that is open for all the categories, two athletes were able to set midget records (14-15). Anji SALEH (Ansar), who first broke the Long Jump record earlier this year, was able to improve it from 5.09 to 5.22m!! A great achievement from the young and talented girl who showed everyone what she is capable of! She finished second overall in the Long Jump!

Finally, we can gladly say that we have a very talented thrower in Lebanon. After Janette AYOUB and Pauline MAKDESSI, we only noticed one great talent which is Janette SAID (Inter-Lebanon) who is the Lebanese record holder in the Javelin throw and won her event yesterday. In the hammer throw, the successor of Janette AYOUB is most probably Mira IBRAHIM (Champville) who threw the 4kg hammer at 23.55m!

We should note that at their age, the hammer is 3kg. Being able to throw at this distance, without the full rotation, shows how strong this young girl is! We are excited to see the competition between her and another talent Nathalie BEJJANI (CSJ) in the discus throw today!

Congrats to the new record holders and good luck for today!
