01 Aug. 2016 – On Saturday, July 30th, a unique Goalball competition was organized by Sports961 at the Lebanese school for hearing and deaf impaired, sponsored by Sayfco Holding, Class Sport and Aqua Vitali.
This sport, designed for blind people and included in the Paralympic games requires extreme focus and silence, as players have to hear the jingling in the ball to save it and then try to score in the opponent’s weak spot!
All players from the nine participating teams who were coming from Scout groups and sport academies, PK football academy, NDH and NSA had their eyes fully covered in order to realistically play the game, and they were led by an international referee as well as the Lebanese Goalball National Team coach Fadi Rouhana who explained the rules before kicking it off.
At the end, the finalists were from PK football academy and NSA, and it was PK who grabbed the gold medal by triumphing 4-2. The victory also earned them a game against the Paralympic Goalball National Team, with the NT winning 4-0.
This experience was definitely one of a kind, it showed the young players what it is to be a Paralympic athlete while also showcasing the talent that these athletes have grown to develop! Believe in yourself, persevere, work hard and nothing will stand in your way!
