10 Sep. 2016 – After the great success of Hicham Jaroudi Women’s International Basketball Tournament that was being held in Beirut with the participation of european teams, Riyadi Women Basketball team was invited to a European championship in Turkey.
Riyadi’s reputation, especially after the success of the women’s team in different regional and international tournaments, has clearly made some noise in European nations.
“This tournament is huge! After the great win in Hicham Jaorudi Cup against great European teams, the confidence in our team is strong. This allowed us to be invited to international tournaments which is a great opportunity for us to put the spotlight on our team and Lebanon through such important participations,” said Jaroudi about the invitation to the Turkish European Basketball Tournament.
The championship is organized by Turkish team Samsun Kanak, who participated in the European Championship, with of team Haskovo from Bulgaria and the University of Cluj from Romania. Three teams with great potential and reputation at the European level.
As a preparation for this tournament and in order to raise the Lebanese flag very high, Riyadi are joining 3 top notch players to their team. The first one is Milica Dabovic, captain of the Serbian team who was European champion in 2015 as well as bronze medalist at the Rio Olympics.
The second addition to the team is Melisa Brcaninovic, from Bosnia and Herzegovina. She had an average of 21.1 points per game and was elected player of the year in her country for the year 2015.
The third and last signing of the team is no stranger to the Lebanese basketball fans, especially the ones who have watched Hicham Jaorudi Cup. It is Diana Delva. She’s had an average of 18 points and 10 assists per game in her last 10 seasons. She was also named player of the in Greece in 2013.
