18 Sep. 2016- Entering the season with high hopes, West Ham looked to be one of the better teams in the league. Not a top four team obviously, but at least respectable. After a 4-2 loss to West Bromwich yesterday, they now sit one spot above the relegation zone. To make things worse, all three teams under West Ham have yet to play their fifth game. A win by any of the three teams would put West Ham in the bottom three.
Opening things up for his side, Nacer Chadli scored his first goal eight minutes into the game after a careless handball by Arthur Masuaka that lead to a penalty. Despite having most of the possession throughout the first half, the Hammers couldn’t come up with any decent chances on goal. The Baggies would go on to score two more goals, and take 3-0 lead entering half-time.
Picking up where they left off, James McClean scored the hosts fourth, and final goal. The visitors did bounce back with two quick goals to cut the lead in half, but were unable to do anything else. After conceding eight goals in two matches, it goes without saying West Ham will not be the team they want to be without cleaning things up in the back.
West Bromwich travel to Stoke City next week, where as West Ham go back home to host Southampton. With the potential of being in the bottom three by the end of this game week, the Hammers will be desperate for a win. West Bromwich on the hand will simply be looking to remain in the top 10.
