22 Sep. 2016 – Karen Shammas 23, is a young Judo player who dominated her sport for 10 years. She then switched to basketball and played in the first division of the Lebanese Women Basketball League.
After a long break from martial arts competitions, Karen comes back to compete in the 5th Asian Beach Games along with other athletes:
- Sambo, Crash, Ju jtsu: Abdo Ayoub (director) and Andre Mashlab (coach). The players: Lea Farhat, Karen Chammas, Ghady Moussa, Kevin Nicolaos, Jad Fadel , Pierre Bou Abboud, Elie Al Chaer.
“It feels so good [to compete again]. I’m excited for this tournament especially that the 4th Asian Beach Games that were held in Phuket in 2014 was my last international participation and I won 2 silver medals. I miss it,” confessed Karen Shammas.
This competition will be Karen’s last international competition before moving to Barcelona where she will pursue her MBA degree: “I’m not sure I can call it a come back […]. It might be my last international participation!”
About her expectation for the Asian Beach Games, she said: “Honestly, I trained for a very short time, intensively; Stepahead with Fouad Gerges in the morning and Judo practices in the evening. I feel so ready to kick asses and come back with a medal!”
We hope to see the Lebanese delegation winning some medals during this major event!
