30 Sep. 2016 – Sabine Fakhoury announced her retirement a few days ago, after her return from Rio de Janeiro where she was volunteering at the Olympic Games.

The Riyadi Basketball player, who played her last season with Arab Youth, dedicated all her life to sports. She has been playing basketball for more than 17 years. Moreover, she works in the athletics department at LAU, a job that allow her to be around the youth and young talents.

She is also involved in the organization of the different races held by Beirut Marathon Association. Sabine holds an Executive Masters in Sports Management- MEMOS. With all that, she still strives for more knowledge in this field.

When asked about her retirement she said: “It is time to fully focus on my professional career.

I started playing with Al Riyadi when I was 14. Since then, I have never changed clubs; Riyadi is and will always be my home. I am retiring today with great memories and full satisfaction of the achievements I accomplished.

You come to a point where your team becomes your family. I dedicated most of my free time to Basketball. The path wasn’t easy; the ups and downs that I went through made me who I am today

To all young players: you have to find a balance between sports and education. No compromises whatsoever. You can achieve all your goals by working hard. Determination and commitment are the key to success.”

Sabine’s retirement will be very beneficial to sports in Lebanon because now we know, that there is someone out there who is dedicating their life to sports, to the development of sports in our country and to the Youth!

Thank you for the great efforts you’ve put in this sport!
