09 Oct. 2016  – The Lebanese gymnastics championships are getting closer, and what better way to prepare for them than a friendly competition. The Hajj Adnan Makkeh Championship took place today, at Bouddha Club Adma. 3 clubs participated: Bouddha Club – Adma, Noujoum Tripoli, and Jamhour.

The championship consisted of 6 events: floor exercise, pommel horse, high bar, still rings, vaulting table as well parallel bars. Each team consisted of 5 players 4 of which competed on each event. At the end the top 3 scores from each team are added together. To get the final score of each team, the judges add up the scores of the teams on all 6 events.

It came as no surprise that Bouddha Club won first place with a score of 160.9 while Jamhour came in second far behind them with a total of 110. Noujoum Tripoli rounded up the podium with a score of 92.2

It is worth mentioning that Jad Kheir, from Noujoum Tripoli delivered an outstanding performance but couldn’t alone carry his team  on his shoulders. At only 14 years of age, Jad showed great maturity and confidence. He completed a breathtaking routine on the still rings and an even better one on the high bar. At such a young age, the future seems very bright ahead of him.

As for the champions of this tournament, well the results speak for themselves. The team’s performance was spectacular but what was even better was their spirit. The gap was so wide between them and the runner ups due to the efforts of every single team member along with Coach Mohammed Charaf. The team consisted of Anthony Awad, Jean-Marie Matar, Alexandre El Rassi, Bendy-Lemon Salameh, and Hicham Kahwaji.

Anthony is only 10 but he was able to score higher than some of the older competitors despite his very young age. Jean-Marie is also very young, he is only 13 and his scores were amazing too given his age. As for Alexandre, he is a jack of all trades since he was competing a few days back in the world kung fu championship. Bendy’s achievements in the sport say enough. 7 times national champion and a bronze medal at the Junior Arab Games that took place in Egypt in 2012. Hicham, at the age of 24, is the most experienced player and captain of the team. He is 5 times national champion and has participated in many competitions overseas.
