10 Oct. 2016– Football, just like almost anything else, has quite the ugly side to it. For years football has been battling racism, and still there are players subjected to it. Just this summer, at the UEFA Euro 2016, many England, and Russia fans created chaos. Serie B action only just recently started due to ongoing investigations regarding the match-fixing scandal.
Because of that, Serie B have decided to introduce the “green card” to their league. The rules haven’t been set in stone, but the idea is quite simple. Any actions that are seen as a good show of sportsmanship can result in getting a green card. Players are not the only ones who can get them. Coaches, and fans are eligible as well. All green cards are given after the match.
It’s way to early to see truly how effective they will be, and whether or not they even sticks. With that being said, there is no harm in trying. This sport is absolutely magnificent, but it has lost its integrity.
