11 Oct. 2016 – The young rising talent in High Jump, Nouhane El Couch, will be attempting to improve her High Jump Youth and Midget record of 1.55 meters, tomorrow morning, on the 11th of October 2016, in Beirut.

Nourhane improved the Youth record twice this year. She first jumped 1.54m during the Lebanese Open Clubs Championship before improving it again in the last week of September by jumping 1.55m. Nourhane figured among the top performers in the High Jump since 2010.

Nourhane was training with the Syrian coach Laymouni, who spend his entire life in Lebanon, coaching Ansar team, before leaving the country. She is now training with the former Asian Games champion and the High Jump national record holder Jean Claude Rabbath.

We wish her the best in the competition tomorrow, hoping that other athletes will take part in order to encourage her raise the bar higher. But it is disappointing that the competition only includes one event.

Records are a source of motivation for the young athletes but it shouldn’t be the only target. We really wish that Nourhane will continue her success and try to beat, one day, the long standing record of Carine Bitchakjian who jumped 1.72m 16 years ago.
