18 oct. 2016 – The fourth and last throwing event in our Best 10 Lebanese athletics performances since 2010 is the javelin throw. An event that consists of throwing a spear about 2.5 m in length as far as you can. The javelin’s weight is 800g for men and 600g for women.
In Lebanon the Army athletes have been dominant for the past few years, while in the women’s one athlete was standing alone: Janet Said. She’s the National record holder with the new javelin (the javelin was redesigned on 1 April 1986). In the old javelin, Pauline Makdessi was the best thrower at that time. She used to throw over the 40m mark.
In general we are still far from the international level where men throw the javelin over 80m and the women’s over 60m. But we should try to raise the bar higher.
