19 Oct. 2016 – Nesrine Njeim and Nader Jaber, two amazing long distance athletes ran in Amsterdam, one completed the Marathon with a personal best and the other was ranked among the top 5 at the Half Marathon.

Nesrine Njeim improved her own Marathon best by more than 2 minutes to 3:04:22 at the Big International Amsterdam Marathon last Sunday.

Her preparation for this marathon began when she was in Rio de Janeiro supporting her sister Chirine Njeim at the Summer Olympic Games: “Living the Olympic Spirit was just a big motivation for me. I woke up every morning, extra early and run along the beautiful beaches. It was amazing to see how many people were running at that early time of the day!”

11 days before running the marathon, Nesrine was suffering from Anemia, which is a deficiency of red blood cells or of hemoglobin in the blood, so she had to take iron pills to get back on track. Hemoglobin transports the oxygen in our system. In a marathon, the aerobic metabolism is involved and it only works on oxygen.

Despite her low energy, heavy legs, Nesrine was able to set a new personal best. Something she wasn’t even thinking of!

On the other hand, the Lebanese 5000 and 10,000 meters champion Nader Jaber (Inter-Lebanon), went to the same city to run the Half Marathon. He came second at the Lebanese Marathon after the National record holder Hussein Awada (Army), where the two runners finished with a 100m sprint. Nader was saving his energy for Amsterdam.

Nader came 5th overall in the Half Marathon. He clocked 1:12:06, 33 seconds faster than his Lebanese Half Marathon. This young athlete has a great potential, he is the only athlete who was able to challenge the supremacy of the Lebanese Army athletes on their favorite distances.

We are looking forward to see both runners at the Beirut Marathon that will be held on the 13th of November 2016. Nesrine on the Marathon distance and Nader on the Half Marathon!

All the best and congrats!
