25 Oct. 2016- Destruction. Annihilation. Domination. Literally from start to finish, that was what happened in Stamford Bridge. Midway through the game Manchester United looked like they didn’t even belong on the same field as Chelsea, and all Mourinho could do was stare in disgust. Antonio Conte displayed beautiful tactics, and excellent leadership from the sidelines. As he does more often than not.
Pedro’s early goal really set the tone for this game. It forced Mourinho, who is known for his sit back and wait style, to actually attack. It also relieved fans from all around the world from another dull snooze-fest Mourinho usually provides against any top team. The second goal was one of those right place right time goals, but nevertheless Gary Cahil did what needed to be done, doubling his side’s lead.
Not much changed throughout the second half. Chelsea continued to put the pressure on United, until Eden Hazard scored an absolutely beautiful goal from inside the box. With the score 3-0, the United players slowly started to look lost. From sloppy passes to simple lack of effort, no one could create anything for the visitors. A fourth and final goal all but sealed the game for the Chelsea as the stadium erupted in guaranteed triumph.
The so called “Special One” can say what he wants. He was outclassed, and outcoached by Antonio Conte, period. Matthew Harding would be proud.
