25 Oct. 2016 – Every year during their annual road event, the Beirut Marathon Association invite special guests to attend the big Race.

After Haile Gebreselassie, the Olympic Champion in 10,000 and 5000 meters, and Paul Radklif, the World Marathon record holder, this year the guest is not only an Olympic Champion, he is the current President of the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) Sebastian Coe.

Lord Coe headed the successful London bid to host the 2012 Summer Olympics and became chairman of the London Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games. In 2007, he was elected a vice-president of the IAAF, and re-elected for another four-year term in 2011 before becoming the president in 2015.

Sebastian Coe won four Olympic medals, including the 1500 meters gold medal at the Olympic Games in 1980 and 1984 and two silver in the 800 meters. He set eight outdoor and three indoor world records in middle-distance track events. In 1979, he set three world records in the space of 41 days and the world record he set in the 800 meters in 1981 remained unbroken until 1997.

He will arrive in Lebanon on Friday, October 11, at 7:45 PM, where the Lebanese Athletics Federation and the BMA will welcome him. A press conference will be held to present the Special Guest to the public on Saturday, October 12th, at 12:00 PM in Lancaster Plaza, Beirut.

We should mention that Lord Coe previously met the Lebanese federation in Cairo and in Lebanon before his election as president of the IAAF.
