27 Nov. 2016 – Second place at the F1 finale in Abu Dhabi was more than enough for Nico Rosberg to seal the 2016 Championship despite Lewis Hamilton once again winning the race.
Going into the race, Rosberg had a 12 point lead over Hamilton and was in a more or less comfortable position. With Lewis starting on pole, he tried to keep the pace slow in order to give Vettel a shot at passing Rosberg, but it was not successful as the latter was able to defend his position and finish 2nd.
This title win comes 34 years after Nico’s father won the championship himself.
Big congratulations to the 33rd world champion, let’s hope next season’s competition will be between more than just 2 drivers!
