Lebanese Athletics: Ramzi Naim Targets a National Record in 60m Indoor

14 Dec. 2016 – Indoor competitions are inexistent in Lebanon only because we don’t have indoor facilities. That’s why, the majority of the Lebanese athletes don’t consider competing indoors. But some others, travel abroad for competitions.

Ramzi Naim holds the national record in 60m indoors. He broke Mohamad Siraj Tamim’s record last year after equaling it the first time. He ended the 2016 summer season with a hamstring injury that prevented him from competing at the Lebanese Open clubs championship.

Now he is back on track and is determined to improve his 60m indoor record. He prepared a full indoor schedule; he was in Istanbul for an indoor meeting and clocked 7.03 seconds on his first race. He finished second after the Romanian Petre Nicolae Rezmives who clocked 6.88s.

His next competition is scheduled on January 9th, in Prague. He will have a series of indoor meets to try to improve his record.

Other Lebanese athletes are also planning to compete in indoor meetings. Peter Khoury, Lea Obeid and Krystel Saneh from Champville Athletics Club are heading to Norway in February to take part in an indoor competition. Peter will compete in the 800m, Lea in the 60 and 200m, and Krystel who is preparing for the Heptathlon will compete in the Shot Put, 800m, Long jump, 60m Hurdles and High Jump.

Daniel Bassous (CSJ), who moved to the USA to continue his studies, will also take part in several indoor meets with his university starting in January to the beginning of March 2017. But with the absence of 400m Hurdles indoors, he will compete in flat distances from 200 to 500 meters in preparation for the outdoor event.

Moreover, Club Sportif de Jamhour may organize two meetings before the end of the year.
