29 Dec.2016– Louaize tackle Sagesse on Friday afternoon in a clash that promises a lot of suspense.
2 of the best scorers in our league face off in a game to claim supremacy. Sagesse’s hero Terrell Stoglin will have to give his best to outshine Louaize’s big time player Geron Johnson. Terrell is known for his great ball-handling and his ability to create his own shot off the dribble or drive past you after a quick crossover. Rabih Dib might be the guy to try and handle him. Rabih is known for his great defense and hustle on each side of the court. As for Geron, he must work to get passed, Mohamad Ibrahim. Johnson has definitely speed on his side and so Ibrahim will need help from his teammates. Geron is most dangerous when he runs the floor, practically a moving truck and with a great finish at the rim, you can try to stop him.
Louaize’s new gunman, Elie Stephan, is having a great season taking us all the way back to the season when he won the title with Champville. A great shooter but with minimal movement on the floor. Terrell and Sabah Khoury might be the men to take the job to stop him. Terrell does negligible work on defense, as he gives his all on offense, and so can bare Elie for few minutes. Sabah has lost speed through time and as a shooter himself can sense the way Stephan is moving and so they might be compatible.
A fierce battle down low is bound to happen. Todd Obrian and Wendell Lewis will go head to head to try and secure the lower area. Both mobile, quick on their feet and have decent mid-range shots, they have a similar way of playing but Lewis might have a slight advantage as Obrian might have to fill the gaps left by his teammates when Geron slashes through the lane ( yeah it’s definitely going to happen) and so Lewis might find himself open for the easy bucket. As for Ivan Johnson and Travis Mckie, things are different and favor Sagesse on this one. Ivan is more physical and faster on the dribble than Mckie and so if Ivan is provided with good passes, it’s going down hard o Louaize’s basket.
We did not forget about the Lebanese players who have been performing greatly for both sides. Miguel Martinez has been a perfect fit at Louaize, taking a lot of pressure off Geron, providing his teammates with the assists and scoring also when his team needed him. For Sagesse they can always count on Patrick Bou Abboud to fight for every loose ball or any rebound. His passion and hustle are always evident whenever he plays and might be a key today in resting Ivan for a couple of minutes or even playing as SF and giving the lineup a bit of a height advantage. It’s also worthy to mention Georges-Yves Daaboul, a young PG who plays his heart out when he gets the chance and proved his value against Champville.
