26 Sep. 2015- Lebanon will face Korea in the 2015 FIBA Asia second round tomorrow at 9:30 A.M Beirut time. Korea lost to China in the first round and defeated Jordan and Singapore. Korea currently stands in 4th place behind Lebanon with the same number of wins.
Korea’s history in FIBA Asia:
Korea never missed a FIBA Asia Championship since 1960 and they are considered one of the best teams in Asia. Korea was crowned 2 times champions of FIBA Asia in 1969 and 1997, grabbed silver medal 11 times and bronze medal 10 times.
Head to Head – Lebanon VS Korea:
Lebanon first met Korea was back in the group stage of 1999 FIBA Asia, both teams fell in Group A and Lebanon secured the lead of the group and defeated Korea 75-65.
In 2001, the 2 teams met again in the group stage but Korea secured the lead this time and defeated our national by 26 points (71-97). Lebanon got his revenge in the semi finals and knocked Korea out after winning by only 3 points 75-72.
The Lebanese – Korean scenario continued in 2003 and Korea got their revenge! Korea and after a dramatic game defeated Lebanon in the semi finals after overtime by only 2 points (83-85).
In 2007, once again the teams met in the semi finals! Korea and Lebanon were looking to reach the final in a fight secure a ticket to the 2008 Olympic Games. Lebanon defeated Korea this by 2 points (76-74).
14th of August 2009, our national team faced Korea in the quarterfinals of FIBA Asia. Once again the game was really close and the game ended in favour of our national team 65-68.
In 2011, Korea & Lebanon met for the 7th time in FIBA Asia and this time in the group stage. The young Lebanese team failed to match up with the Korean level and lost 62-80
