24 Jan. 2017 – Nothing can stop a Lebanese woman from achieving her goal, pushing the limits and raise our flag high! They have proven through sports that they are strong; strong enough to ink their name in the history books.
Joyce Azzam is a Lebanese mountaineer and conservation architect who decided to go on the quest to complete the “Explorers Grand Slam” and become the first Lebanese woman to raise our flag on the highest summits of the world.
She is living and studying in Italy: “With an MA in Conservation of Historic Cities and Buildings, currently I am a PHD Candidate in Landscape & Environment at La Sapienza University of Rome. I love to research innovative approaches to protect and conserve cultural heritage specifically “Cultural Routes & Landscapes” as much as I love to enjoy the outdoors”, Joyce wrote on her personal blog.
She has achieved first place as part of a 40km trail running team competition organized by the army, completed the grueling Tour de Suisse cycling, and finished 3 times 42km Beirut Marathon among other impressive accomplishments both national and international.
Joyce is above all driven by her will to empower women. She aims to inspire Lebanese women to challenge themselves and follow their dreams. She will climb each mountain with a different Lebanese Woman from all over the world in order to re-connect with the Lebanese community abroad and together empower every woman of our beloved Lebanon.
