27 Feb. 2017 – For the first time in women university volleyball history, a team managed to win a gold medal in an international tournament outside of Lebanon.
The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) ladies have indeed managed to grab gold at France International Tournament.
For the past 10 years, women teams found it hard to compete in Europe due to the high level there, but this was finally broken by USJ’s team.
This achievement came after years of preparation, as the team adopted the players who were with Sainte Famille Fanar in their school years, as they were among the most talented here in Lebanon. Add to that the fact that USJ has a team in the first division to give their players a chance to gain more experience.
In the tournament, the Lebanese University beat opponents from France, England, Ireland and then France again in the final 2-1.
Well done to the ladies, who we can now call ladies of gold! It is also worth mentioning that the men football team ended up second behind the English team.
