20 Oct. 2015- “We have the playground, we should create the good environment and it is easy to put Lebanon on the international map” – Jad KHOURY said when I first met him in our office. Jad is a passionate person who loves climbing, he trusts that our country has all what it takes to attract international climbers.
“We have the best expedition in the Middle East and the type of rock is similar to the ones existing in the best climbing countries in Europe.” Jad the founder of Rock Climbing Lebanon club told us while talking about Lebanon.
Jad is trying to develop the climbing community in Lebanon and push the Lebanese talents to join his vision. He’s pretty sure that climbing can change the image of our country (war country) on the international scene, “Lebanon’s nature is amazing and can attract a lot of international climbers who will promote the beauty of Lebanon. The experience of Red Bull‘s David Lama is a good example, Baatara Gorge got the international exposure and a lot of tourists will be visiting this place soon.”
After asking him about Rock Climbing Lebanon and his future targets, Jad said that keeping the climbing community in Lebanon under control is the must important thing and everything else will come with time. “We always make sure to keep our playground (the nature) as it is with no damages, the equipments we use is nature friendly and doesn’t damage or affect the rock we’re climbing”. There’s currently 250-300 climbers in Lebanon and the number is expected to grow with time! We are getting the international exposure as Lebanon’s best climbing locations was mentioned in the world’s best 10 magazines and at least 50 international climbers are coming to Lebanon per year.
