22 Oct. 2015 – In preparation for the upcoming Judo season, the Lebanese Judo Federation organized an international judo tournament where our Lebanese Judoka collected 16 medals: 4 gold, 5 Silver and 7 bronze.
The tournament was held in Mont La Salle, in the presence of the president of the Syrian delegation, Ahmad ACHOUR, and the president of the Iraqi team, Mokhles HAYDAR, and finally the presence of the president of the Lebanese federation Francois SAADE and the general secretary Amin AYOUB and members of the federation.
In the under 60kg, Ahmad BARI from Syria won gold after defeating Naim TAIROUZ (Lebanon). Abdo ANTAR (Lebanon) and Widah ALIOUI (Iraq) shared the third place.
In the -66kg category, Elias HADDAD grabbed one of the four gold for Lebanon after defeating Mouid TABBAH from Syria. In the third position came both Ali CHOUMAN (Lebanon and Taleb MCHTAK (Iraq).
Michael MERHEB won the second gold for Lebanon by overcoming Ihsan FALAH (Iraq). Habib GERGES (Lebanon) and Wassim FANDI (Syria) shared the third position.
Kevin NICOLAOS, who headed to the World Judo championship right after this tournament, won the third gold for Lebanon after defeating Steven AZAR who grabbed silver for Lebanon, in the men’s -81kg. The Syrian and the Iraqi, Abdelsalam KADOUR and Moujtaba AHMAD shared the third place.
Another double occurred in the -73kg category, where Elie CHAAR won the fourth gold for our country and Rabih BADR won the silver. Leaving Ahmad BADR from Syria with a bronze medal.
In the men’s -100kg, Mohamad GHASSAN (Syria) won the second gold for his country after defeating Mohamad HELLANI (Lebanon). In third position comes Moujtaba AHMAD who played also in the -81kg category.
Finally, the third gold for Syria came through Diya’ Eddin BADR and Lebanon finished in second psition with Wassim OBEID and with two bronze through Dominic MATTAR and Hanna TOUMA. We should mention that Hanna TOUMA joined NICOLAOS in the mission to the World Championship.
57 judo players took part in this championship from the three different countries. Claude SAROFIM was the head of the referee team formed by: Charles DANIEL, Rony KHAWAM, Andre MECHLEB, Abdo ASBOUR, Marcel JOBI and Jamal ABDELHAY. Table Judjes: Antonio SAADE, Joe SHAMMA, Joe HADDAD and Ghady MOUSSA.
