One of the most exciting event on the third day was the 400 meters. In the women’s Sara Joe KORTBAWI (Champville) won the finals in an amazing time of 1:00.71 followed by Rebcca KASSAB (CSJ) in 1:04.25 and Corine FREIHA who came in third place clocking 1:05.90.

In the men’s, Ramzi NAIM (Champions) came back from the two years doping ban to win the 400 meters in 49.13 seconds! He waited for the last 100 meters to overcome his opponents. Charles KARAM (Champville) who came from the States to compete for the first time in his country, ran the distance in 49.57 seconds to take second place, while Ahmad MOHSEN (Army) who dominated this event for two years was placed third with 49.71.

We should note the presence of Tomas SEMAAN (CSJ) who came from France to compete in this championship, and who was placed fouth overall, third in his heat, with 50.77. Tomas, who has one of the best sport spirit, will also take part in the Open Clubs Championship.

Charles KARAM and Tomas SEMAAN were not the only Lebanese living abroad to take part in this championship. Nadia DAGHER (Champions) who lives in Germany, appeared for the first time in a Lebanese Championship and won the 5000 meters in 19:08.33!

Nader JABER (Inter-Lebanon), who fought hard in the 5000 meters and finished third after being caught by the strategy of the two Lebanese Army athletes, ran the 10,000 meters with a strong will to win and prove to everybody that he deserves to be number one. And he did! He followed Bilal AWADA (Army) during the 22 laps before taking the lead in the last three laps and crossing the finish line first in 33:29.92. Bilal AWADA was second with 33:32.26!

We should mention that with the presence of Nader, the long distance runs like the 5000 and 10,000 meters are becoming more and more exciting, because usually we only expect the Lebanese Army athletes to win!

In the men’s triple jump, Karl RIZK (Champville) set a new Bantam record of 10.98 meters. He and Ronald KASSAB (CSJ) were fighting for the record. Ronald jumped 10.96. Last time it was Ronald’s, this time it’s Karl’s, who knows who will improve the record next time! A great competition between the two young athletes that will surely lead to big improvements of the triple jump bantam record.

Finally, the most exciting race of the championship was the 4×400 meters relay! Unfortunately, Mahmoud DAOU from CSJ couldn’t help his team in the 400m, due to a small injury. The team fought hard and finished in third place with Raphael SAMAHA, Abdo HELOU, Daniel BASSOUS and Tomas SEMAAN. But the Lebanese Army and the Champions ran a great relay! Ali HAZER and Ahmad HAZER (Champions) ran the race of their life to catch Abdo HELOU (CSJ) and Hassan MANSOUR (Army), but Hassan waited for the last 100m to overcome Ahmad an win for the Lebanese Army.
