07 Dec. 2015 – Pia NEHME (Inter-Lebanon) ran a rainy Sacramento Marathon on December 6th, 2015, and crossed the finish line in 2:53:18! She is now the second Lebanese woman to ever run under three hours after Chirine NJEIM (Champville).
Pia is the former Lebanese record holder in Marathon with 3:00:02, she improved her personal best by almost 7 minutes! She is also the record holder of all the Long distance disciplines from 3000m to Half Marathon. The only athlete who was able to break one of Pia’s records if Chirine who ran the Marathon in 2:46:41. She set her last record on October 31st during the Philadelphia Rock’ Roll Half-Marathon running the 21.097km in 1:18:45.
We should note that the Sacramento Marathon is a point-to-point race with a net downhill. So, even though it is a certified course, it is not eligible for IAAF records. IAAF certified courses for marathons should be measured by the AIMS.
Pia’s goal is to qualify for Rio 2016 Olympic Games! Her next target is to try to do the qualifications in April 2016! She will have to run a sub 2 hours 42 minutes!
Finally, we should note that the three best Lebanese Women marathon runners achieved their best results during 2015! The third best woman is Sonia HANNA (Inter-Lebanon) with 3.02.29.
