30 Jan. 2016 – Six rounds have already passed in the 2016 Lebanese basketball championship, with Homenetmen provisionally sitting on top of the league with a 5-1 record ahead of Riyadi who has a perfect 5-0 start.
Now, let’s take a look at how each team fared during home and away games. First, 3 teams are yet to lose a game at home and they are Riyadi, Mouttahed and Homenetmen. The Lebanese champions have indeed won 3 games at home while Mouttahed and Homenetmen won their 2 home games following 6 rounds played. But, what is really hurting Mouttahed is their away record as they have lost 3 games and won only 1 against a struggling Byblos squad. Homenetmen on the other hand has a very good away record, with 3 victories and only 1 loss against Riyadi in Manara.
Meanwhile, Sagesse is the only team in the league who is better away than at home. Indeed, the greens are 2-1 away and 1-2 at home! But that did not stop them from breaking into the top 4, and despite all problems at the club, the players are really giving their all!
Also, speaking about away form, only 2 teams are yet to win a game outside their home court, Byblos and Louaize. Indeed, both of them are 0-3 away, with Byblos failing to live up to the expectations they set at the beginning of the season. In the pre season, they won 2 official titles and defeated Riyadi without Jay Youngblood in the super cup, but their form has abruptly declined since the season started and they only won 1 game at home and lost all other 4. Louaize on the other hand has been losing games in the dying minutes, as they perform well throughout the game but always fail to finish what they started. Nevertheless, they are the league’s new comers and they still have some time to adjust before the 2nd leg where they will no doubt start fresh.
Tadamon’s statistics meanwhile are very balanced, as they have a 2-1 record at home and 1-1 away. The team has been very organized on both the offense and defense this year under the guidance of coach Miodrag Perisic and they can go far in the championship.
Finally, there is still Champville who had a very rough start to the championship. Indeed, the blue team won only 1 game at home against Sagesse while losing 2 and also lost their 2 away games. It is no doubt understandable as the team got together late in the pre season, but coach Ghassan and his players will have to get back to winning ways very soon as they aim to make it to the final 4 just like last year!
