30 Jan. 2016 – The Asian Olympic Qualifying competition for Shooting is taking place in New Delhi, India, and will be done by the 2nd of February. Most of our Lebanese shooters just finished their competition and came out with good results!
The Lebanese delegation if formed by: Ray BASSIL, the only woman representing Lebanon in shooting so far, Walid AL NAJJAR, Nidal ASMAR, Wissam KHALIL, Elie AKIKI, Elias KAADI and Samer SARKIS.
After Ray BASSIL finishing 7th in the qualification in the Women’s Trap, missing the semi-finals by only one position, the men’s results just came out!
Walid AL NAJJAR and Nidal ASMAR both competed in the Men’s Trap. Walid finished 19th out of 41 competitors with a total of 114 points (22-23-24-22-23) and his teammate Nabil finished 21st with also 114 points (23-24-25-21-21).
We should mention here that the qualifications are made out of 5 rounds with 25 disks, so both Walid and Nabil score 114/125.
Wissam KHALIL, Elie AKIKI and Elias KAADI took part in the Double Trap event where they finished 11th, 13th and 18th out of 25 shooters respectively. Wissam scored 133 points, Elie was able to score 131 points while Elias scored 120 points.
Samer SARKIS is going to compete in Skeet on Monday. The difference between Trap and Skeet is that the targets in skeet are launched from two houses and are somewhat facing one another and intersect in front of the shooter while Trap has a single machine.
Ray BASSIL had the best chances to qualify but now she will hope for a well deserved wild card. She came out 5th at the world championship and won silver in Asia. Achievements that allow her to participate in Rio 2016.
