10 Aug. 2015 – Four young swimmers represented Lebanon at the 2015 FINA World Swimming Championship in Kazan: Gabriella DOUEIHI, Jenifer RIZKALLA, Anthony John BARBAR who’s living in the US and Adam Ismail ALLOUCHE who’s living in France.
In this kind of championships, the swimmers target to improve their performances and break new records on the national level. Two swimmers were able to set new Lebanese records. Anthony BARBAR, aged 23, set a new record in 50 meters Butterfly, swimming the distance in 24.88 seconds. He was finally ranked 45 over 80 swimmers.
Gabriella DOUEIHI, aged 16, set a new record for theYouth category (16-17) in the 800 meters Freestyle with 9:18.30, breaking her sister’s, Chrystelle DOUEIHI, record. A performance that allowed Chrystelle to go to the Youth Olympic Games last year in Nanjing. Gabriella also participated in the 400 meters Freestyle and clocked 4:35.09.
“This experience is really amazing, it is my first championship at a very high level so I am really proud that I improved my times in this circumstances. To see world champions, how they prepare, what they do, is also very helpful.” Said Gabriella after her 800m record.
“It’s been a long time since I last improved my 800 meters time. I was preparing well before this championship hoping to do well in the 800m. I am so happy that I could achieve my goal here at the World Championship! Living such moments makes me very happy and proud to be an athlete, a swimmer!” Added Gabriella.
Jenifer RIZKALLA, aged 18, took part in the 50 and 100 meters freestyle and clocked 27.76 and 1:01.16 respectively. She was ranked 68 over 113 swimmers in the 50m freestyle and 75 over 90 in the 100m freestyle.
Adam Ismail ALLOUCHE, aged 22, finished 51 over 76 in the 50m breaststroke with 29.45 and 60 over 68 in the Backstroke with 29.91 seconds.
