23 Feb. 2016 – The 5th USJ Interscholastic Games organized by the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) came to an end, after an amazing competition between 59 schools.
Weekend 1 at the tournament was all about qualifying rounds and the table tennis competition, while in the second weekend, advanced stage games were raging in front of an amazing crowd filled with friends, family…
In the women’s volleyball competition, Sagesse Brasilia defeated Sainte Famille 2-0 in the final, to strip them from the title they have been winning in the last 4 editions. The men title meanwhile went to Louaize who defeated Saint Joseph Kornet Chehwan 2-0.
The swimming competition had a record number of participants this year, and the gold medals were distributed among Mont La Salle who got the most, Jamhour, Saint Coeur Kfarhbab, Saint Joseph Aintoura, Orthodox Secondary School, Sagesse High School. Silver and bronze were also won from participants in these schools, in addition to Sainte Famille Fanar.
On the other hand, the women basketball championship title went to College Protestant who defeated the former champions Jamhour 21-11. The men’s competition meanwhile got a new champion, Saint Joseph Kornet Chehwan, after a breathtaking win against Sagesse Brasilia 32-30!
In the badminton tournament, Rosy Rizk from Jamhour beat Perla Hobeika from Sainte Famille and Salim Chemaly from Sainte Famille overcame Christophe Abi Younes.
Meanwhile, in the futsal competition, the girls team of Saint Coeur absolutely dominated the final game and defeated Antonine 4-0! The men’s final on the other hand was very tense and close, with CCJ overcoming Saint Coeur Bikfaya 2-1 to grab the golden medal!
As to the handball competition, Jamhour defeated MLS to claim both the girls and boys titles!
Finally, the Jamhour ladies were terrific in the cross country competition as first place went to Michella Bou Eid while her teammate Yasmina Fakhry finished second. Joseph Jbeily from Val Pere Jacques won the men’s category while Georges Wajih Tayyar from Jamhour ended up second.
