25 Feb. 2016 – Francois SAADE, Damien ZIADE and Nacif ELIAS are the three Lebanese Judoka who took part in the Dusseldorf Judo Grand Prix that was held in Germany from the 20th to the 22nd of February.
Damien ZIADE, who took part in the men’s -60kg, won hist first fight against the Tunisian and African Champion Fraj DHOUIBI before losing in his second match against Diyorbek UROZBOEV from Uzbekistan.
Nacif ELIAS, who participated in the men’s -81 kg, also won his first fight against Ivica PAVLING from New Zealand but lost to Goki MARUYAMA from Japan in the last 30 seconds of the match!
Francois SAADE took part in the men’s -90 kg, lost to the 3rd in the World Championship the Mongolian Otgonbaatar LKHAGVASUREN who later on won Bronze medal in this Grand Prix.
This competition gives points for the Olympic Games qualification. This kind of competitions is very important for our Lebanese athletes. Nacif ELIAS is already qualified for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro while Francois SAADE needs 50 points to qualify and Damien ZIADE needs 72 points!
We wish them the best of luck for the qualifications hoping that we will see more than one Lebanese Judoka at the Olympic Games in Rio!
