Charbel Daoud, A Young Baller Making His Way In the States

07 Mar.2017– In Lebanon, raw talent is underappreciated. Whether you’re an athlete, scientist, musician or a simple guy who wants to succeed in life, Lebanon is not your A destination. As for Charbel Daoud greener pastures in the United States were enough to lure him.

At 16 years old, Charbel stands at 6 feet tall and plays as a combo point-shooting guard. He is part of the Michael Krop High School varsity team in Miami, Florida. They have started the season really well having won 14 of their 18 games. Daoud was vital in clinching many of those W. He can run the floor nicely, drive the lane and thread the ball just as efficiently. Most of his skills may have been developed initially in Lebanon as he has previously played with Champville. But now, he is taking his game to another level.

After winning the Antoine Chartier Cup twice before, Daoud hopes he can add more silverware to his list of accolades.

We wish Charbel and every athlete or person hoping to succeed outside the best of luck, as they are our image among the West’s best. However, we hope talented individuals would be appreciated here and given the right opportunities to shine and flourish.

Check him out in action here:

Lebanese Basketball League-Preview: Sagesse vs Louaize

09 Mar.2017– Sagesse host Louaize today in Ghazir as they hope to leapfrog Tadamon and go 7th in the standing.

This is one crucial game for Sagesse as Hoops are hot on their trails and they need to win this one to ensure they progress into the second round.

As for Louaize they go into this game wounded as they lost their sharpshooter Elie Stephan for the next 2 weeks. Louaize depend a lot on Stephan to score and spread the defense so Geron can find space for his movement and penetrations. Sagesse can now play their beloved zone defense so they can limit Geron’s drive to the rim. Minimizing one to one situations with this guy is critical if Sagesse want to keep him at bay. With Stephan out, only Travis McKie can cause them troubles from behind the arc. So with Patrick keeping an eye on him, they can now focus on getting those rebounds and limiting Louaize’s second chance points.

If coach Fouad wants to shake things up, he can play matchup zone with Joe Ghattas tangling with Geron and switching on picks with Mike Efevberha or Mohammad Ibrahim. All eyes are on Johnson as he is his team’s heart and soul. As for Sagesse, they rely on Terrell Stoglin to push the team forward. His matchup with Geron will be one to look forward to. Filling up the backcourt with Efevberha, Stoglin will cause Louaize all kind of problems. Miguel Martinez will have a big role backing up Geron and try to limit Sagesse’s wonder duo.

Down low, Wendell Lewis will face up against Calvin Godfrey. Godfrey is not the guy we saw in Dubai. I don’t know what it is, the food, the air, but this guy has turned this around. Although his turnaround, but he might as well give away his spot to Kenny Adeleke. Either way, Lewis has his work cut out for him. Bashir Ammoury will have a big role today, limiting McKie and pushing him outside. Grabbing those vital rebounds and maybe even get on the score sheet. While Patrick Bou Abboud gets better and better, coach Fouad hopes he can rely on him to take some pressure off the foreigners.

09 Mar. 2017 – The second game of the series opposing the Army to Achrafieh was expected to be tensed, and it sure lived to everyone’s expectations.

In fact, the game was very close and the score was nil-nil just 4 minutes before the break. However, the Army did not want to go to the halftime with a tied score, so with barely a few minutes left, Kbeissy stepped up and scored the first goal for his team to make it 1-0 for the Army.

In the second half, another goal was scored for the army giving them a 2-0 lead. But Safa and Farraj had other plans for AYC. They each netted a goal tying the score at 2. A heroic comeback for Achrafieh with 10 minutes left before the end of the game. A comeback that, unfortunately, was not enough for AYC to grab the win and equalize the series. The Army’s men scored one last goal clinching the win just under the wire to end the game 3-2.

The Army now make it 2-0 in the series and take a comfortable lead with what could be the last decisive game on Monday March 13.

Stay tuned for the results.

10 Mar. 2017- Riyadi and Lebanon’s PG, Wael Arakji got injured in tonight clash against Mouttahed.

Wael is suffering from a grade 1 acromio claviculaire dislocation and needs between 7 and 10 days of rest.

Thus, he will miss the upcoming Waba championship held in Jordan.

The Lebanese Dragic has been pulling an incredible performance lately on both offensive and defensive ends, playing like he’s got 20 years of experience and helping his team grabs crucial wins.

It’s worth mentioning that Ramzi, who’s following  his brother’s steps Wael, got injured as well in his game in division 2 against Miziara and needs at least 3 weeks of rest.

We want to wish the Arakji Brothers a speedy recovery.

11 Mar. 2017- After being injured in his last game against Mouttahed, it seems out that Wael Arakji’s season has come to an end very early.

He needed up to 10 days to recover according to the first medical tests, but things turned out to be pretty serious.

It’s really sad to see our NT’s point guard out, when he still has a lot to give. But Wael is the type of guys who never surrenders, who gives whatever it takes to win. He is known for his incredible fighting spirit and his Mamba mentality so he will definitely come back stronger than ever.

Here’s what Arakji had to say: ” As my season ends early this year, i want to thank everyone for supporting and believing in me. Hopefully i will be back stronger as i am determined to do so. I am blessed and thankful for everything, Alhamdulilah. Love you all! #riyadi.”

We want to wish Wael Arakji a speedy recovery, hoping to see him with the National Team in Asia this summer.

AFC Beach Soccer Championship 2017, Lebanon Fall Short Of WC Qualification

11 Mar.2017– Lebanon started their quest to qualify for the world cup with great fashion, defeating both Oman(4-3) and Thailand(6-1) in the group stages.

Heading to the knockout stages, we were facing UAE as our eyes were locked on qualifying to the WC. After a tense game, the score was tied at 4-4. Penalties were the only solution to separate both teams. Unfortunately, we were unlucky as we lost 2-1 in the shootout.

Our final chance to reach the WC was against Japan in the third place match. The Japanese were ready and took the lead early on and kept control of the game as they won 6-3. Lebanon finished 4th in these qualifications thus blowing their chances to reach the Finals.

Iran finally defeated UAE to crown themselves champions.

Lebanese Basketball League-Preview: Byblos vs Homenetmen

11 Mar.2017– Byblos host Homenetmen today in a game that promises to be a good one.

Byblos have lost twice to Riyadi and once before to Homenetmen. This game does have a psychologic twist. The Jbeili team needs to defeat one of the two strongest contenders so that they can feel they are up there with the best. Losing today would also give Riyadi the 2nd spot and could start an era of questioning themselves. Are we championship material?

Byblos’ biggest problem incarnates in Fadi El Khatib. He has an advantage on every player on their roster. Faster than Ali Kanaan, stronger than Ammoury and definitely faster and stronger than Clay Tucker. Finding a way to push him to the sides of the court, double team him, and deny him the ball is crucial. If he gets hot, it’s practically game over. Playing zone to limit his one on one match-ups is very dangerous as 4 out of 5 players can drill the three in Homenetmen’s lineup.

As for Ebi, he will face Ater Majok down low. Ebi has shown he can handle big centers with the likes of Robert Upshaw when he goes on offense. It’s the defensive duties that we question. Aminu had the performance of a lifetime against him. Stuffing the ball on many occasions with facial after facial. Double-teaming for the help might not help at all as leaving spaces on the opposite side for Dewayne Jackson or Fadi is devastating.

Talking about Jackson, he should limit his long-range shooting and look to penetrate the basket as he will spread the defense and force his man to follow him outside. Jackson will be happy to drive the lane on either Kanaan, Ebi or even Abi Kheres when they leave the paint.

Yet the most awaited match-up is between Jay Youngblood and Kevin Galloway. Both can drive the lane, assist their teammates and take outside shots. Galloway might have a slight advantage of size but Jay makes it up with speed. Separating Jay from Rodrigue Akl and making them play as 2 units rather than one is very important to break Byblos’ flow. Together they work as facilitator and scorer, as they can both thread the needle and take their open shots. Suffocating Rodrigue with Elie Chamoun or Karam Mechref coming in will give Byblos less  options to operate.

Byblos will have to count on Tarek Ammoury to pitch in on the scoring end as Clay Tucker seems to be out of phase, and Homenetmen definitely will keep a close eye on Jay and Ebi. Finding his touch early will be critical.

A great game that we will definitely enjoy.

The Best Lebanese Lineup For Round 15- Lebanese Basketball League

12 Mar.2017– After an amazing round 15, here is your Lebanese Lineup of the week.

At PG, Ali Mezher has been consistent all season long and has elevated his game to become one of the best playmakers in this league. Notching 16 points, 14 assists and 4 rebounds he was his team’s beating heart in a tough loss against Riyadi.

At SG, we chose the Lion Heart, Elie Rustom. Stats don’t always show the contribution a player gives on the court. Elie is known for his fighting spirit and running up and down the court. Scoring 11 points, grabbing 9 rebound along with 3 assists and 2 steals, he was everywhere. It was mainly his huge effort on defense against Morris and Kemp that got him a spot in our lineup.

Words can not describe what this guy is doing. I’m going to stick to LEGEND and nothing else. 32 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and a crucial win in Jbeil. Hats off man.

With some great back to back to back performances, Bassel Bawji makes his way to our list as PF. He notched 13 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists with 2 blocks to ensure his team would get a win in Jounieh against Mayrouba. Champville has gone to another level when he came to life.

At center, our pick was Ali Haidar. 12 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, 2 blocks and the W. Is there anything you can’t do big fella?
