Tamara ZEIN, a young passionate of 16 years-old, is living now this state where the mind can push the body to a certain extreme! The girl clocked 3 hours in plank! Her target is the Guinness World Record!
The talented girl play different kind of sports. Her father, who is a marathon runner, taught her skiing and took her with him for running. She started gym at the age of 11, hitting classes such as LES MILLS, HIIT, plyometric, calisthenics, weights and agility training. At the age of 12, she started equestrian and recently, she started distance running with Inter-Lebanon club.
It all started when she decided to challenge her coach! “A couple of months back, in Fitness Zone, I attended one of the abs workout classes “Iron Core”. One day, the trainer challenged us to take a plank position and hold it for as long as we can. Being the youngest, I didn’t expect to hold on for a long time, yet I took part in it. I ended up falling last, at 12 minutes.”
“This really boosted my self confidence and the next time to went to gym, I decided to challenge myself again! This time I lasted for 42 minutes and 21 seconds, however I did suffer from pain for a couple of days after this challenge because I didn’t put any protections on my elbows.”
“After 5 days, I decided to challenge myself again. This time I folded my elbows with protections, I lasted for 1 hour 23 minutes and 41 seconds. The day after that, I decided to have a look at the current world record of plank for women, it was 2 hours and 12 minutes and I realized that I wasn’t that far away!”
“After 8 days, I sat for the plank, and lasted exactly 2:15:07. This time, I got in contact with Guinness world records, and I was assigned an agent who got in contact with me and encouraged me to go for it and send a video once I break the record. I aimed to plank for over the time of the world record, I got to 3 hours, which broke the world record back then.”
“However, another world record has been broken, 3:31. So far I’m only half an hour away from breaking the record since I was able to reach 3 hours, I am way younger than the women who broke it, and i have set a new target, which is to plank for 4 hours, and I believe that I am capable for achieving it.”
The Plank is a very difficult exercise that needs a mental strength in order to resist fatigue and soreness! According to Tamara, “the main challenge is the first 20 minutes as pain slowly builds up and rushes through your body”. “However after 20 minutes my body started coping and getting numb, therefore I managed to stay longer.”
To motivate herself, Tamara always repeat this quote to herself: “When you don’t think of time as your enemy, you will love every second of this”. What makes her keep going is distraction! She keeps herself busy, studying, phone calls and youtube videos are her main source of distraction.
“I am now aiming for 4 hours in planking and with practice I believe that I am able to reach it. A few days back, I wanted to experiment on my pushups. I ended up with 402 in 15 minutes, the current world record is 829 in 30 minutes, with enough practice, I also believe I will break that record too!”
In 5 years from now, Tamara sees herself as a Chemical Engineering graduate, pursuing her athletics career and raising her country’s name internationally.
“I really want to take running to a whole new level, and break more records. My aim is to work on it as I have greater message of inspiring and leading the younger generation into sports and I to inspire them to working on themselves and push their limits, I want them to never stop dreaming and always strive for the best.”
