07 Jun. 2016 – Sara Joe KORTBAWI was the only Lebanese representative at the 17th Asian
Juniors championship that was held in Vietnam. she was accompanied by Wassim HAWLI from the Lebanese Athletics Federation.
Sara Joe competed in both the 1500 meters and 800 meters. After almost two days of traveling, she arrived in Vietnam one day before her competition. With the jet lag and after a very long trip, she didn’t recover well to compete in the 1500 meters on the first day.
She ran the distance in 4:49.30 and was far from her personal best and Juniors record. The next day in the morning, she ran the 800 meters in 2:20, only few hours after the 1500 meters race. The tiring trip couldn’t help her give the best of her but she fought hard!
The young girl wants to qualify for the World Juniors Championship that will be held in Poland in July. We really hope that at least one Lebanese athlete will do the qualification standards. Mahmoud DAOU is the best Juniors athlete today and he is close enough to the standards.
Mahmoud is now recovering from his injury and will be back soon to try to qualify for the Worlds!
