25 Jul. 2016 – The third and last event from the Grand Prix Melanie Freiha has come to an end. The athletes gathered not only to take part in a sports event but to show support to Melanie’s family.
The last meet was the final competition before the last big event of the year: the Lebanese Open Clubs Championship. Some athletes showed a great potential throughout the year especially in the last series of competitions. In this article I will only mention one really good performance that deserves all the attention.
Daniel BASSOUS (CSJ), who was very constant on the 400m Hurdles lowering his time from 57 seconds to 55, has finally faced a challenge from the Lebanese Record man of the distance: Ali HAZER (Champions). Daniel is always fast in the first 200m, but Ali’s strength is in the last 200m where he was able to surpass Daniel to finish first with 54.29. This challenge helped BASSOUS go under 55 seconds for the first time in his career! He clocked an amazing 54.94s!
We should mention the Grand Prix Winners:
- 400m Hurdles Women: Corine Frieha (CSJ) 9/9
- 800m Women: Sara Joe Kortbawi (Champville) 9/9
- Long Jump Women: Krystel Saneh (Champville) 9/9

Two more days before the start of the Lebanese Open Championship where we expect another head to head between Ali and Daniel and more exciting events like the head to head between Gretta TASLAKIAN and Aziza SBEITY on the 200m, the 800 and 1500 meters men where we expect Hassan KARALLA to react after losing both events at the Individual Championship and much more!
Don’t miss the last championship of the season before the Olympic Games: July 27, 28 and 29 at Sports City Beirut organized by the Lebanese Athletics Federation and sponsored by Sayfco Holding.
