15 Aug. 2016 – Chirine Njeim made history yesterday by being the first ever Lebanese to make it to both, the winter and summer Olympics!
From alpine skiing to marathon, the transition was made about four years ago. It all started for the fun and it turned out that Chirine excelled in this discipline. She smashed record after record and qualified for Rio 2016.
Chirine lived the two extreme weather conditions, from a freezing cold Olympics to a very warm one! The marathon was held on an extremely hot day in Rio de Janeiro, from the start to the finish of the race, the temperature went from 23 to 31 degrees which couldn’t help the athletes perform well.
“I was running and seeing girls who were collapsing in front of me. I knew that it wasn’t a PR (personal record) race but I had to finish the race!”
Chirine was not happy with her performance of 2:51:08 but she was extremely happy that she made history.
“This is the start of something new, a new beginning, a new journey,” said NJEIM after her race.
The preparation for the marathon takes a lot more from preparing for ski, but Chirine promised she will be in Tokyo 2020!
Today, Ahmad HAZER will run the 110m heats, hoping he will do a season’s best!
