20 Aug. 2016– In only his second Premier League game, Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored two goals, his third in two games, to lift his new team past Southampton. United grab their second win in two games granting themselves the early momentum they need.
After a few missed opportunities, United finally took the lead. Wayne Rooney delivered an absolutely beautiful cross into the box for Ibrahimovic to send in with a great header. Making his long-awaited return to Old Trafford, Paul Pogba impressed, and showed why he was worth all that money. However, as the game went on, the toll the Euro Cup took on him was obvious.
Five minutes into the second half, Luke Shaw was brought down inside the penalty box, setting up Ibrahimovic’s second goal. The veteran striker sent the ball to the lower right corner, doubling his teams lead. Southampton tried to fight back, but United were clearly the better side.
United will look for a third straight win next week when they travel to Hull City. On the other hand, Southampton will look for their first win of the season as they host Sunderland.
