06 Sep. 2016 – The Lebanese Shooting federation organized the fourth round of the Lebanese shooting Championship in Double Trap in Chtoura Country Club in which eight shooters took part.
Double Trap has been an Olympic event since 1996 for men and since 2008 for women. It consists of two targets that are thrown simultaneously at slightly different angles. The target speed is about 80km/h!
In the qualification round, the eight shooters had 150 targets to shoot. Wissam Khalil was first in the qulaification with 124 points, Elie Akiki came in second place with 123 points, Elie Kehdi was third with 120, Imad Bou Khalil fourth with 114, Salesman Sarah fifth with 112 and finally Joseph Hawi came in sixth place.
According to the ISSF rules, the 6 qualified shooters move to the semi-final where they shoot a single shot on 30 targets. The first two shooters play the finals while the third and fourth play for the bronze medal.
In the semi finals, Elie Kehdi scored 25/30 and played the finals against Wissam Khalil who scored 24/30. In the finals, both shooters scored 27/30, but Wissam was able to score 6/6 in the additional shots while Elie failed in his last shot with 5/6 taking the Silver medal.
The bronze medal was a fight between three shooters. Joseph Hawi, Elie Akiki and Sleiman Sarah. Each one scored 20/30 in the semi-finals, but only two qualified for the bronze medal duel. Joseph (4/4) and Elie Akiki (3/4) moved to the bronze medal match that ended in favor of Elie Akiki with 26/30 leaving Joseph Hawi in fourth place with 19/30.
Shooting is a sports that requires a lot of patience; one mistake can cost a lot!
