5 Oct. 2016- It seems daily now that we here the phrase “history has been made tonight”, or “this is something you don’t see twice”. This past Monday was one those days. A 13 year old teenage boy from Ivory Coast named Karamoko Kader Dembele made his debut for the Celtic’s U-20’s coming on in the 81st minute.
Now some may say it was a meaningless late substitution, but they would be wrong. This kid came on late in the game, and simply held his own. Undersized and all, Karamoko didn’t looked phased or intimidated at all. In fact, he looked quite solid. It’s no longer a secret why former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has shown interest in the boy, and now, everyone else will do the same. Already being lamented the next “Messi”, it seems like the nine minutes he played, will effect the next nine years of his life.
Karamoko’s list of accomplishments include the Player of the Year award at the Bassevelde Cup in Belgium, and at the St Kevin Academy’s Cup in Dublin. Both events welcomed youth teams from Barcelona, Lyon, and Deportivo La Coruna, per the guardian. Hopefully, this list will get longer, but only time will tell. Being from Ivory Coast, Karamoko has the likes of Chelsea legend Didier Drogba, and Manchester City star Yaya Toure to live up to. Good luck young fella!
