16 Oct. 2016 – Last year’s English Premier League Champions, Leicester City, have seen their form suffer a huge setback as they sit 13th in the league with 8 points out of 8 games. Middlesbrough and Burnley also have a game in hand which might send Leicester to 15th.
But what caused that dip in form? It is understandable that they overachieved last year, but people expected them to be at least a solid top 10 this year. So far they failed to do so and the reason is quite simple. They failed to cope with the pressure of being champions. With all the hype surrounding the team in the offseason, the magnitude of the task they had with their European fixtures, it was all too much to handle.
Having all eyes on you was too much to handle for Leicester in the EPL and it is clearly affecting them. When we look at the Champions League on the other hand, where they are not facing any pressure, the team delivered magnificently so far with two wins out of two games, despite the fact that their group is not as tough as the rest. It was the players first European experience and they did great.
Let’s hope Ranieri’s men will find their form back in the home league in order to once again cause problems for the big teams!
