After the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Usain Bolt, the 100 and 200 meters Olympic champion wanted to challenge the 400m World record holder and Olympic Champion Wayde van Niekerk on 300 meters.
Back in 1997, Michael Johnson, the former 200m and 400m world record holder and Olympic Champion, challenged Donovan Bailey who won the 100m Olympic gold, on 150 meters in Toronto.
Bailey picked up $1.5million when Johnson pulled up with a hamstring injury in front of 30,000 fans and the Canadian crossed the line in 14.99 seconds.
Even Mo Farah, the 5000m and 10 000m Olympic Champion wanted to challenge Usain Bolt over 600 meters. But they haven’t organize the challenges yet.
In our lovely tinny country, one of the best 800 meters runners was up against one of the best 200 meters runner in Lebanon. Both Abdo and Mahmoud previously ran the 400 meters race. But the fair distance between the two was 500 meters.
Abdo’s endurance and his ability to keep up the pace helped him win the race by few meters ahead of Mahmoud who suffered during the last 200 meters. This challenge will boost both athletes in training knowing that it is the general preparation season now.
Congrats to Abdo who won the challenge and even received a trophy at the end of the race!
