11 Nov. 2016 – Henri Chalhoub Basketball Tournament final started with fast tempo offense from Byblos who managed to build a strong lead with a great performance from Ali Kanaan having 7 points in the first 10 minutes and from Hargrove draining 3 three pointers. Byblos were playing with no final stress and led the first quarter 25-13.
In the second, Ghassan Sarkis introduced Youssef Ghantous and Mark Khoury who gave a shot of energy to their team and managed to reduce the gap. With the leadership of Patrick Rembert and Bassel Bawji, the lead was cut to one. However, Byblos’ experienced players were able to maintain the lead and finish the half 41-32 in their favor.
Same old same old in the third quarter as Byblos built on Champville’s mistakes and managed to maintain the lead. Their greatest ally was the three point line as they scored dagger after dagger to keep Rembert’s team-mates at bay and enter the fourth leading 63-57.
In the final quarter things were mixed up as both teams shared blows, both of them refusing to be denied the gold. Rembert was his team’s star player scoring at will from outside and cutting to the basket on many occasions to keep his team in the game. The game went down to the wire with 1 minute left and Byblos leading by one. For the remaining time both teams shared free throws as time wore off and Byblos retained their title winning this year’s final 82-80.
Hargrove led his team with 20 points, second came Tucker with 18 and third Ebi with 17.
Champville’s best scorer was Rembert with 36 points. Thomas pitched in with 18 and 10 rebounds.
