Nov 20. 2016- Taking full advantage of a chance to go four points ahead in La Liga, Real Madrid produced one of their better performances in a while, thrashing their Madrid rivals 3-0. Cristiano Ronaldo lead the way grabbing his 39th hat-trick with Real Madrid. Having not beaten Atletico Madrid in their last six games, the result was quite surprising.
Real’s first goal came by way of a Ronaldo free-kick that hit the wall enough to send the ball in the opposite way of Oblak. Cristiano came close to doubling that lead, but shot the ball right into the goalie, setting him up with the easy save. Atletico were indeed lucky to end the half only down a single goal. However, they too challenged the Real Madrid defense as well as goalkeeper Kaylor Navas.
In dire need of a goal, Diego Simeone added two men upfront to help the unhealthy Antoine Griezmann. Still, despite their best efforts, it was Real Madrid who grabbed the second goal of the evening. Tripped inside the box, Ronaldo was awarded a penalty, and per usual secured it with ease. Now in desperation-mode, Atletico attacked with everything they had, but again it was Real Madrid grabbing the third, and final goal of the match. Set up by a beautiful pass from Bale, Ronaldo secured both the win for his team, and the hat-trick for himself.
Real Madrid have given their self a nice little cushion over both Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid. They face Sporting next week where they will most likely grab another win. Rivals Atletico Madrid take on Osasuna the next day.
