23 Sep. 2015- Lebanon is expected to face Qatar on the 24th of September in the 2nd round of the 2015 FIBA Asia group stage. In their first game, Lebanon defeated Taipei as Qatar defeated Kazakhstan!
History of Qatar in FIBA Asia:
Qatar qualified to FIBA Asia for the first time in 1991 and they grabbed the 16th place back then. After that Qatar never missed an Asian Championship since 2001 and scored their best results in 2003 and 2005 where they secured the 3rd place. In the last edition of FIBA Asia Qatar were ranked 6th!
Head to head – Lebanon VS Qatar:
Lebanon and Qatar met for the first in the 2003 FIBA Asia in a fight for the 3rd place. Qatar secured the 3rd place after defeating our national team by 10 points 67-77.
The Lebanese national team got the revenge in 2005 where the 2 teams met in the semi finals and Lebanon knocked Qatar out from the championship by winning 83-79!
In 2007, the 2 teams met again and this time the Lebanese national team was stronger and defeated Qatar in the quarter finals 90-68 with Fadi El Khatib scoring 38 points.
Lebanon defeated Qatar one more time in 2009, the teams met in the second round 73-63 and the 2 teams were qualified to the quarterfinals.
