13 Jan. 2017 – Maria Breidy created a surprise at the ITF Asia 14 & Under Development Championship – D2 by reaching the final. The tournament is currently taking place in the capital city of Thailand – Bangkok.
The Lebanese 10-year old athlete first stole the spotlight by reaching the quarter final. However, she did not stop there, she went on to defeat the number 1 seeded Bhisti (Nepal) 6-4 6-1 to move on to the semi finals. In the semi-finals, she continued her outstanding run by defeating the seeded number 3 Jana Khatib (Jordan) in two sets 6-4 6-4.
Maria will now face Weerawansa, seeded number 2, in the final game.Maria has very high chances of reaching the division 1, which is a higher ranked tournament. Our fingers are crossed and we hope Breidy brings home the trophy.
Maria has shown that she is one to be feared, she really made a nation proud.
