29 Sep. 2015 – The Lebanese Table Tennis national team is playing the Asian Table Tennis Championship in Pattaya, Thailand. The championship started on September 26th and will continue to October 3rd.
Our four men: Avo MOUMJOGHLIAN, Mohamad HAMIYE, Joe SHALHOUB and Mohamed HABECH, played the team events and were finally ranked 30th overall, after defeating both Afghanistan and Nepal in 3-0!Image may be NSFW.

Today they started the men’s doubles, Avo MOUMJOGHLIAN and Mohamed HABECH played their first game against Japan and lost in 3-0: 7-11, 3-11, 5-11. On the other court, Mohamad HAMIYE and Joe SHALHOUB joined forces against Korea but also lost in three sets: 11-2, 11-1, 11-2. They both faced very tough teams in Asia.
Our team still has the men’s individual event to play before the end of the championship. In the same day, Selim HAJJ-NICOLAS, the president of the Lebanese federation and head of the delegation, attended the Annual Asian Congress Meeting where they discussed the Olympic quota and elected the different kind of committees within the federation. Wael NOUREDDIN was re-elected in the Technical Committee of the Asian Table Tennis Federation!
“The level of this championship is high, the rest of the teams are very well prepared with training camps and they are even mentally prepared for the championship. Our athletes are doing really well. At first, they were in a very tough group with KSA, Indonesia and Iran, but they played really good games and they could have defeated KSA and Indonesia. It was very close! They also won two games against Afghanistan and Nepal which is a very good achievement.” Said Selim HAJJ-NICOLAS.
When asked why there are no women participating in this championship, HAJJ-NICOLAS said that the players are paying the trip, the federation can’t cover the costs and the trip is very expensive. He also said that Lebanon was one of the few Nations that insisted in creating the Asian Federation in Singapore.
Finally, our athletes are doing really good and are fighting in every single game! They still have the men’s singles to play!
