09 Nov. 2015 – While we are waiting for the official results of the Beirut Marathon 2015, lets meet the winners of the 5k, 10k and 42k at the 13th edition of the Beirut Marathon.
Let’s start with the youth who are the future of Lebanese running in general and athletics in particular. Mountaser HAMIYE was the first Lebanese athlete to cross the finish line in the 5k for Youth boys. In the girls, Sara Joe KORTBAWI won her third consecutive title in the 5k youth girls. This was the last 5k for her as she is turning to an older category next season. She is now targeting the World Juniors Championship in 800 and 1500m.
On the other hand, Nader JABER who also won the 10km this year at the Lebanese Championship (on track), and who was one of the rare runners to defeat the Lebanese Army squad, also won the 10km at the Beirut Marathon this year! In the women’s Lea ISKANDAR defended her title on the 10km crossing the finish line well ahead of the other runners to secure first place again this season!
Moreover, Hussein AWADA from the Lebanese Army was the first Lebanese runner to cross the finish line of the Marathon distance! While in the women’s, Chirine NJEIM was the first woman to finish the 42km with an amazing time of 2:49:23 (unofficial), her second best performance and her second sub 3hours after her National record set 3 weeks ago in Chicago.
In the special needs category, Edward MAALOUF, who is targeting Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games, finished first with one hours and 18 minutes! He was accompanied by Athletico Bike Generation cycling team headed by Elias ABOU RACHID.
In general, the Lebanese results were great! Athletes enjoyed their time running the marathon despite a crowded finish for the 10k runners.
